The Hotel Vila Galé Albacora is located on the site of the former Arraial Ferreira Neto, a historic tuna fishing camp that operated from the 19th century until the 1970s. The camp once housed the fishermen and their families who worked in the tuna fishing industry before being carefully restored and transformed into an eco-friendly hotel. The hotel has preserved many of the original structures including the old chapel, school and the fishermen's houses and pays tribute to its history with the Museu do Atum (Tuna Museum) which tells the story of the tuna fishing industry and its significance to the region's culture and economy.
Being located on the banks of the Ria Formosa lagoon, a protected natural park, this hotel is surrounded by nature and wildlife making it ideal base for naturalists and birdwatchers. The island of Tavira is a short boat ride away and the town is just a 10 minute drive from the property.
